My field assignment was on underage drinking. I really did enjoy doing this field assignment more than the previous one. I say that because I found this topic to be a little bit more interesting. I got to interview a cop, teenager, and parents.
The best part of doing this field assignment was hearing the teenager’s stories. It was very interesting because when he was saying these stories his parents had no idea about what he has done in the past. I interviewed them separately. the teenager asked me not to mention anything he told me to his parents. His parents on the other hand thought he was the best teen any parents could have. “The role model’ as they put it. I thought how could the parents not know at all? To call Matt, the teenager, a role model after the stories he told me is crazy.
Overall everything went smoothly I was able to get all my interviews and all seemed to work with my schedule. maybe the only thing I would probably want is to add another teenager and his or her family to the mix to see maybe a different point of view. The reason i did not was because I did not know what the max was for interviewing people.
i wish this would have popped in my head sooner. The reason why I chose this topic honestly was because one of my friends was talking about under age drinking. So I would like to say thanks.
Congrats! I think it is always cool to hear someone talk about walking in two weeks. Hopefully you will get a career. I was looking online and it said that public relations is on a rise. Unless your a journalism major then good luck (in a good way). I don’t walk for another two years so I have quite a long time. i could walk next year but I would have to be taking 5 classes every quarter and I would have to put my trip to Italy on hold and I do not want that. So I will no rush it and just go with the flow. Once again congrats!!
In my first blog I wrote about how I was too excited for this summer. This Saturday my brother is graduating from high school. So right now my whole family is scrambling and try to organize everything for Saturday. My parents like to throw big parties so right now it is kind of chaotic at the house.
My brother’s graduation is the first graduation happening this year out of six. So next weekend it is two of my cousins graduation. Then the week after that is my other brother’s graduation and two of my other cousins. I am really excited because last summer there was not any graduations or ceremonies so this year is going to be great.
The only down fall about these graduations are the gifts. I do not know what to exactly get my brother graduating high school. He already has a lot of stuff and my parents already gave him a laptop so I will probably give him money. My other brother though I will get him an Ipod. The one graduating in two weeks is a lot more appreciative and he usually gets a lot of hand me downs. So I tend to get him new stuff when it is his birthday or for this instance his graduation.
Congratulations on everyone that is graduating in two weeks. Your finally free and able to make a difference in the world (hopefully). May what ever path you take lead you to greatness. When writing the previous sentence I felt like i was Yoda or some wise person (strange I know). have a good weekend I know I will.
I completely agree with you and that the council meeting was off the charts. Did you join the riot afterwards? I wish it would have been a little more interesting. The librarian was okay but to be honest I think they need to change their panel of council members. The older guy next to the Asian council member needs to retire because I was going to fall asleep when her spoke. The women next to the mayor also needs to retire. They need to bring in more young council members like the mayor and Diamond Bar would thrive that much more.
Well, Where to begin? The City Council Meeting was off the CHARTS! For me, it was like a rock concert. There were, I’m guessing, at least 300 people there. All so excited for the discussion of their slightly affluent cities plans. As a matter of fact, after they mentioned the closed session budget…
This was the very first city council meeting I have attended and I must say that was very boring. The experience after was great but the actual meeting did not really excite me. the reason why I thought it was boring is because I thought it would be like the city council meeting exercise we did in class the week before. That exercise was interesting because that was a topic that caught everyone’s attention.
After the meeting though it got better. we got to meet the mayor. She was cool. She seemed very down to Earth. One of my classmates seemed to have a huge crush on her. She was able to answer all the questions we had given her. Our “tour guide” or the woman that answered some of our other questions in the press room was really nice also. It must be pretty crazy to try to remember all that information about the city.
i have never been to the Diamond Bar City Hall and where the meeting was held was very nice and huge. They said that they will be moving to a newer building later on. I can not imagine how that would be. like I said that building seemed nice but the new one must be even better.
After the meeting we were taught how the cameras worked and how the technical guy is able to record the meeting and what kind of technology they use.
I did not know that they city of Diamond Bar was that young. I also thought it was pretty cool that they were able to get the type of technology that the camera records you when you talk into the microphone. The tech guy said that they were able to put that company that creates that type of technology on the map. Overall I really did enjoy the experience. Now on to writing the paper for the actual meeting.
I know this title may seem confusing but just to set things straight this blog is not about the strip club on Central and Mission. How do I know where it is exactly located? Well I went to an elementary school just two miles away from it that is how ghetto my elementary school is. Back to the actual topic about this blog is that I feel that I am repeating the first five weeks of this quarter.
In the first five weeks I was assigned a shadowing project for my photojournalism class, field assignment for reporting, and a nine page paper for my philosophy class. When I completed all these assignments it felt great and to know that I did well on of them it felt even better.
Now that we are getting closer to the end of the quarter it feels like it is happening all over again. I get assigned another field assignment, I have to shadow a non-profit company for the photojournalism class, and now I have to complete an eight page paper for my philosophy class.
I am doing this all over a again but now they are all due on the same week so this makes it even that much more difficult. I know that I will be completing the assignments on time but just the thought of each one is kind of stressing me out. That is why I said it feels like deja vu because I am doing the same thing over again and I am not to happy about it. Why could it not be the strip club Deja Vu instead of school deja vu? Just messing.
Exercising is the best reliever to do when you are stress or upset. I run four times a week. I feel great when I return home. I think that is the best thing to do because not only are you getting all that negativism out but also you are working on your body to make sure it is in shape. That would be awesome if everyone that was stress or upset would go for a run and make it mandatory. That would be lowering the amount of violence in the world and lower the rate of obesity in America. Taking out two birds with one stone as the saying goes. That is great though that you were able to go for a run and feel great about it.
So far, this has been my busiest quarter yet. My days are filled with driving back and forth from Pasadena to Pomona to Sierra Madre. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I have classes from 8-11:35 am then I drive out to Pasadena to babysit from 12:30-5:30 pm. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I work…
That is pretty cool that you were able to talk to many students on how they felt about the presentation. I too probably would be nervous going up to random people asking fro their input. That is good though that you were able to do that. I did not see in the blog post that you interview Davis unless I missed it, my bad. That would have been cool to interview someone very well known. In the long run though at least you enjoyed you field assignment and went through with it.

I know I enjoyed mine and I think that is the best thing to do when you really enjoy doing a topic that is interesting to you and the readers.
I had a very interesting experience with my field assignment. I really did not know what to expect or how to accomplish it. My brother is journalism major and any mistakes in my writing have always been critiqued by him. However, my brother gave me some few tips in order to accomplish my field…
My field assignment was about enrollment for public and private elementary schools. I talked to two parents and two faculty members.
The assignment was interesting because honestly I thought it was going to be boring. The two parents that I spoke to were very nice and answered all the questions I had. The two faculty member were the ones that were kind of hard to interview because both were busy and the days they were available it conflicted with my availability but that gores to show that I need to make sacrifices in order to get this story done. When I finally got a chance to interview the faculty members they were both very open to answering any of my questions.
It would have been cool though to interview the students. If I were to do that I would probably need a permission slip from each of the student’s parents. that would have taken a while to get and there probably would be a lot of trouble to organize that. I does not matter though because I was able to get what I needed from the four interviews I conducted.
Overall I really did enjoy the topic I chose. I think that is the best thing to do. If you chose something that is interesting and you want to do that as your topic it should be smooth sailing. I think it is funny when students choose something that is not creative or interesting and is very bland to the reader. Because that is when your work becomes more difficult to do.
I also noticed that everyone did their field assignment about an event or something that pertained with Cal Poly Pomona. Mine did not on the other hand so hopefully my stands out in a good way and not by failing.
I completely agree with you. The best way to start talking with someone is with food. I love to try new things and those places you mentioned seems cool to eat at. I go to the Claremont Hike Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and I am hungry afterward so that I know that there is a bagel place and Thai food that you said are good I probably will try it afterwards. There is a place in chino called California Pho Grill and it is really good. Want strawberries, chocolate cover popcorn, rice cakes, or peanut butter cups?
For this weeks blog I wanted to talk about food! I find food to be one of the most relatable conversation topics when you first meet someone and are in the process of getting to know them. Let’s be real, everyone loves food…
I used to work in the Claremont Village. For those of you who have…
April is the month where cops are cracking down on talking and texting on the cellphone. Why could it not be the month of drinking and driving?
When we drive the majority of us assume that nothing really bad is going to happen because in our minds we are the world’s best driver. Well that is what I thought until yesterday.
Yesterday I got my first ticket and it was not even a traffic violation meaning I did not speed, I was not driving reckless, I did not do a “California Roll,” I even had my seatbelt on. Instead the Chino Police got me for talking on my cell phone.
Let me start from the beginning. I was suppose to go to my abueltia’s house to pick something up. I was suppose to be there at 1:30 p.m. but I lagged it and did not leave my house till 3 p.m. While I was walking out of my house I had to make a phone call to a shipment I was going to recieve because they were misplacing my money. I did not think it was going to be that long so I continued to talk to the operator while driving. I had the phone on speaker but close to my face because the operator could not hear me. Two miles away from my house I hear the siren. At first I thought it was for a car next to me. I was wrong though it was for me because there was no car around me. I knew what I did wrong because I dropped my phone and put underneath my seat. Stupid me I did not hangup so I could still hear the operator talking. I was laughing and being nervous at the same time. While I was pulling over I had to find my phone under my seat and hangup before the officer came to my window.
Once I parked I found my phone and placed it in the cup holder. I gave up and I knew what I did wrong. While I did that the officer came up to the driver side but I forgot that my window was broken so I opened the door and gave him my id and registration and insurance. He asked no questions and took them and wrote me a ticket. While he was writing my ticket two kids were walking pass and the officer straight up told them you see kids that is why you do not talk on the phone while driving. All I could do was look down in shame.
The reason why I was kind of shocked to get a ticket for this is because I drive really fast. I am a good driver but I do drive fast. Instead I get a ticket for talking on SPEAKER on my cell phone. I am thinking of billing the operator taking her time and making me get in trouble with the law. Now in two weeks I am going to contest the ticket and see how much I am going to pay.
Well have a good week because mine started off great!
The only way I remember to write blogs is to write on my hand everyday on what I need to do so I do not forget. it works for me. But I think I could get sick from writing on my skin so I am probably going to stop and by an agenda. Or you could set an alarm on your phone everyday to remind you to do a blog. It would be pretty cool to have a bunch of things set up to to remind you just to write a blog. Then again you would have to set them up all over again. Setting up all those things that remind you could also remind you to write the blog. In the long run you will pretty much be going in a circle. Just a thought.
Not only did I miss out on fifteen eeeaaaasy points, but my lovely followers (you) missed out on my weekly moment of brilliance (which, for all intents and purposes of this blog, only occur once a week and are carefully trimmed and…
I have a weird sense of humor. I do not have a creepy or strange sense of humor but I pretty much laugh at things that others think why are you laughing or how is that funny? I do not know if any of you have been on the website funnyordie. Some of the stuff is really good and some of the stuff is kind of strange and why did they post that? My favorite clips, so far, are Captain Planet with Don Cheadle, and Mob Wives The Christening. If you ever get the chance watch them I thought they were funny as hell. Then again my kind of humor may be different then yours.
I think it is interesting how everyone has their own sense of comedy. Some may have a sick mind and think things that we as a society think is not funny what so ever. Some may have a general sense of humor. Others are in the middle.
I would say I am towards the middle but more to the general humor.
For example, I would be the only one laughing in my tennis class when someone messes up. I am not a pro or anything but some of the mistakes that others do is just ridiculous. There was this one girl that did not know how to play tennis at all. So when she was facing an intermediate level tennis player she was completely clueless. He did go easy on her but still that did not help her at all. But it was not her skill that was funny it was her attitude towards the game. She would curse like no other when she messed up. I tried my best not to laugh out loud due to wether she was serious or not while she was cussing.
At work they all ask me why I laugh so much or they ask why I think everything is so funny? I tell them because when something happens I look at the humor side of it and try to explain it to them and then they begin to laugh.
I just look towards the humorous side of something that happens.
When my uncle passed I wanted to write something for him and tell my family and friends that were there that paid their respect to my uncle at the mass. I did not want to write something on how I felt that day, which is sadness, instead I said something that was a humorous moment I experienced with my uncle.
Humor is a great quality to have. Everyone has it and everyone has different levels. Use it everyday.
This weeks blog is on the cinnamon challenge. I am sure many people already know it but just in case they do not here it is. The challenge is to eat, consume or swallow a tablespoon of cinnamon. It may seem simple but only a few were able to do it. I have not tried it but many of my friends have and have not succeed.
The reactions to the ones that have tried it though are priceless. Here is the process of what usually happens when someone wants to do the challenge.
1. think they are tough and that challenge is easy
2. pour the cinnamon in a tablespoon and begin the countdown to consume it.
3. quickly gets the tablespoon full of cinnamon and opens there mouth and try to eat it all.
4. once in the mouth a second or half a second they begin to panic and try to spit out all the cinnamon.
5. begin to yell or scream (ladies)
6. runs to fridge and gets water or the faucet what ever is closer.
7. down the water and spit out the remaining cinnamon in their mouth or have the faucet running and place their mouth on the running water.
8. after a few mins they begin to either laugh, cry, yell more or scream more, curse, or sometimes go after the person that put them up to the challenge.
That is the order in what usually happens when you do the cinnamon challenge. It is funny as hell but it could be dangerous to do. Just a warning people have died from this. what happens is that the cinnamon particles go into the lungs and cause serious damage. But back to the funny part. If you want to see what happens when someone does this challenge either tell someone to do it or go on YouTube and type in glozell cinnamon challenge. She over does it by using a ladle if I spelled it correctly. Have a great weekend.
I agree with you. I really did not see as a marketing ploy because everyone seemed so involoved and so “fight the power” attitude that to me those students that walked barefoot today were doing this for a good cause. I was out there today not to support it but to video tape it for videography class. It does make sense that they could have been using this event to support Toms. Example there was the title TOMS everywhere. Instead we should help those that are hungry or cold everyday. We should market blankets and do what TOMS does every blanket you buy we send one to a child that needs one.
Yea, my friend told me that android finally gets to do instagram. That is kind of cool because I have an android and now I can finally start doing this. The only thing though is that I do not exactly how to work it. But after you said that it is like twitter I do not know if i want to download it. I really do not care for twitter even though everyone has it and it is the biggest thing out there now. The reason why I say that is because I really do not want to hear where that person is at or what they are doing every second. I know that Facebook is starting to become like which I am kind of nervous because sooner or later they are going to combine the two. Samuel Islas 4/5/12
This week I wanted to talk about my obsession with the iPhone and recently released for Android photo app Instagram! I got Instagram more than a year ago right when it had first been released. For those of you who don’t know what Instagram is, it’s an app for your iPhone, iPod, or iPad….
No procrastination at all this quarter!! (lottery side note)
Last quarter I talked about procrastination and that I would not do it anymore. Well I lied to myself. I waited till the last minute on everything and by the the grace of God I did not fail any of my classes.
This time I will try this promise one more time. The reason why I make this promise one more time is because this might be one of the hardest quarters I am going to have to do.
It is not that the classes themselves are extremely hard it is just that I will have to be putting a lot of time into them. Time is never on my side.
I do better when I am on “crunch time” and wait till everything is about to be due, and complete the assignment then. Then again I have never tried not to procrastinate. This may be the first quarter that I do not wait till the last minute to do assignments.
That is why I am doing my blog right now on a Monday instead of doing it on Thursday or Friday. You see I am already changing how I complete my assignments. Hopefully this will continue to stay like this and I will not break my promise.
Just a side note did you hear about the lottery and how three people won? That sucks because now they have to share and who wants to share half a billion dollars? Then again how would you spend half a billion dollars?
Since I am nice I would be giving at least a million to each family household, which consist of aunts and uncles, in my family. I would be giving three million to each one of my brothers and sisters. 40 million to my mom and dad, 100,000 to all of my close friends. Then the rest would be for myself. If I did the math right i would be left with 200 or 300 million dollars.
The reason why I would be giving that much away is because who wants to be rich alone? Then you can not have or experience the same things and luxuries as someone else.
Back to procrastination. Starting April 2 (today) I promise my self that once the assignment is assigned I will complete it or as much of it as possible. Hopefully this works.
Hopefully this quater will go faster than last quarter. Don’t get me wrong last quarter did go by fast but honestly I want it to be summer already.
One of my cousin’s called it “The Year of Graduations.” The reason being is that my family will be celebrating seven graduations. Technically it is 10 but because we really do not celebrate the ones graduating from kinder so we will be having seven.
Four are graduating from 8th grade. Two are graduating from high school and one from college. I am not the college graduate I still have a year and a half left.
my family is pretty big. One of my aunts calculated that we will be celebrating one or two graduations every year for the next decade.
This all starts in May, which I am kind of excited for. That is also the reason why I want this quarter to go by fast.
I have pretty chill professors thsi quarter so hopefully that will some what make time fly. This quarter though I will be taking 18 units so that will be fun.
Another reason why I also want the summer to come quickly is because I may get an internship. Hopefully this will happen. Because I want to be able to gain experience and also I think it would be pretty cool.
Quick question does this count as week one or week zero? Because if it does count as week one then nine more to go. If not then let the ten weeks begin.
The sad thing about this virus over taking me is that I know when it exactly started and thought that it was just a piece of food caught in my throat. I was in the library on the computer when I felt a sharp pain in my throat and thought nothing of it. Then a couple hours later I had soar throat. After that it went from bad to worst. I am just happy that this virus happened after all the essays were due. Because if it was during then I would just probably would have B.S. it all.
The reason I say that I have a virus is because I do not know what I have exactly. i thought I had the flu because I had a fever but that lasted only a day. Then I thought I had the common cold but the symptoms were more severe. It is not a bacterial infection because I am already taking antibiotics and nothing is working.
I am actually surprised that I am still able to do this blog.
Now I have to study for 4 finals and make sure that I finish a resume that is also due next week.
This is a great way to start off spring break could not ask for more.
Just to let you know what things I have:
severe headaches, flem, bad congestion, sore throat, on and off fever, dizziness, exhaustion, bad cough, and fatigue. Sounds great does it not.
If anyone knows wht the hell I have please let me know.
And the best part I went to doctors and they just gave me an antibiotic.
I just found out about this three days ago when my friend told me about it. I thought it was just another thing that people wanted to get involved with because it was the next trend. I was completely wrong about that though. When I watched the video I thought this is amazing. This one person created this video and was able to get everyone around the world involved. I wanted to give my support but I was out of money so instead I just told people about it. Like they said let make Kony famous.
I remember in high school, my two favorite teachers — Mr. Casillas and Ms. K — shared theInvisible Children movies with our classes and taught us about how the children in Uganda have been suffering for over 28 years. Helping Invisible Children became a huge phenomenon at school and we ended up getting people from the organization to come and speak to us during an assembly. They had tables set up where student could buy T-shirts and I bought two of them.
The messages from both of these shirts was very powerful. The white shirt has a self-explanatory message, “I heart the LRA. 90% of the LRA are abducted children. Come to the rescue.” But I feel that the green shirt sends the most powerful message because they were designed for people to wear during a march that spanned nation wide to support the invisible children. With a screen print gun across the front, teddy bear dangling behind the backs and military styled uniform designs, people wore these shirts in support of the abducted children.
Damn you are crazy and to be honest I do not know how you do it. I had to quit one of my jobs because it started to get to much and next quarter ill be taking 21 units so it would have been even more crazy if I still had two jobs. I think I am also in your Com 201 class because I was also going to type up the eight page paper but I did not have enough time. At least we get a week break in a couple weeks so you will not be running around like a headless chicken.
In all of my blogs, I tend to just write whatever is on my mind. I never have a specific topic for one specific blog. I kind of just start rambling about things that come to mind, and somehow create a weird/spontaneous post, where one paragraph may have no relation to the other.
When I first got my license I wanted to drive everywhere and anywhere. Now five years later I do not even want to put the key in the ignition. Gas has once again rose to a price where we are now second guessing where we should drive today and make sure that you are pressing on that gas petal and few times as possible.
I drive a Honda civic so gas is not that big a deal for me, but now that I am driving to work, school, LA for an internship pretty much everyday I am using at least half a tank each day. Usually I put between $35-$40 to fill up the tank and this week alone I spent at least $100 on gas. That shows how much I drive.
I know that I should probably stop going to so many places but I need to work and I need to go to school. My internship is not as important but how am I suppose to get any experience for the career I want.
At my old job my coworkers and myself would make fun of one of the cooks that would ride his bike to work everyday. It would be funny because sometimes kids would be messing with his bike and he would get pissed. Sometimes we would mess with him and tell him that someone took his bike.
Now that I look back on it he probably saves at least $50 dollars every week. Plus he gets a good workout. I can not imagine though me riding my bike from my house in chino to Pomona then to chino hills then back to Pomona to go to my night class. I know that it is not impossible and it not that far but to do that through the week and especially that you are crunched on time it could be stressful. I want to try though once and see how well I do. Until next time.
This blog posting some what connects to the posting I did with procrastination. May this bad example be a lesson to all of you. Once you get the assignment start it right away! Because if you do not then it will haunt you until the due date comes and you are running out of time.
Instead of starting the assignments when I first got them I waited a week before they are due to start them. I have a total of five papers I have to complete all due next week. The longest paper is eight pages and the shortest is three pages. Eight pages may not seem a lot but in order to do it before it is due on Wednesday is kind of difficult. I am not stressing about it. I usually do not stress about papers but it just time that kills me. I take forever to start typing a paper. That is not the worst part though.
I work all weekend, ten hour days. I start in the morning and do not get out till 9 p.m. So I really do not have that much time to start my papers. So now I need to figure a way out to see how I can type these papers out and still be able to get sleep and do the other things I need to do.
I think it is amazing to hear people pull all nighters. I can not do that even if I tried. The latest I have bee up trying to finish my homework was midnight and that when I called it quits and knocked out. So it will be fun trying to figure this dilemma but in the long run it will be a living hell.
I really could not see them due to the camera men in the way. Then again though I have to blame my self because I sat in the back instead of moving to the front to see how their posture was. Though their communication skills were very good. I do agree with you though in the beginning it was kind of rough and that they seemed kind of disorganized but once they got their stuff together it ran very smoothly. I also agree with you about how they were able describe every detail about their investigation on Bell.
I thought this was speech was going to be boring to be honest. When first listening to this I was very interested and picturing how they investigated the city. Overall the speech was very good.
The two guest speakers at the Communication department’s, “What’s the Scoop,” were Pulitzer Prize winning reporters for the Los Angeles Times Jeff Gottlieb, and Ruben Vives. They came to tell us about the Godsend of a story they investigated on Bell county California that won them the 2011…
I have done so many interviews coming out of my.......
For the pass two weeks I have done at least one interview every day. Literally everyday I have interviewed someone. During the first week I had to interview a group of Christians about something they believe in for one of my communication classes. Let me tell you this though this was the best interview I had because the whole time they were arguing and made the topic very interesting. So that was the whole first week because the topic was so broad that everything had to be covered about that topic.
I know that it sounds kind of weird that I have not told you about the topic but its kind of classified. The week after that I had to interview five different people for this class and each interview took at least three hours long. I should have gotten paid for this because it honestly felt like a job. Overall though it was kind of fun and I would like to do something like this in the future.
Hopefully though I am able to put everything in the paper that i got from the interviews. Because lets just say I would be mad as hell if I did not have to do this after all.
I just want to take a break right now and be able to relax during this weekend but that is not lilkely to happe.
just a side not did you know that we do not have this monday off likeother normal human beings. That it was “observed” Dec. 26. When my friend told me that I was like who the hell puts a vacation everyone takes and “observes” it the after Christmas. I say we riot. Just a thought.
I completely agree with you. I did not say pizza with the president’s entourage. I was kind of disappointed of what I heard. None of them really gave a solid answer on the topics addressed that night. Instead we got a lot of opinions. I thought it could have ran better. Hopefully the spring “pizza with the president ” session will not be as bad as this one and questions will actually be answered. Samuel Islas
Well, to start off, I did not have pizza with the president. The title could be miss leading if you do not attend Cal Poly. “Pizza with the President” happens once a year. Cal Poly’s President, Michael Ortiz, takes questions from students from a wide range of topics. The pizza was served by Round…
Pizza with the President... Well at least one President.
This was the first time I actually went to one of these “sessions” they have with pizza with the president. I thought it was okay not great. In the beginning the questions that were asked was the environment (trees), ride share, water fountains, food places, CLA building getting replaced, and then tuition/financial issues.
We had to go through five completely dumb questions to actually get to the main concern about this university. Really, we are that concerned about water fountains when are fees are increasing every quarter. When we finally got on to that topic president Ortiz got defensive and saying that he is trying his best to make sure fees do not raise. Lets be realistic its going to get a lot worse then better. I understand he is trying to be optimistic and say that we as a school are trying every means necessary to make sure that the fees are not going to raise.
I just wished that the whole gathering of us eating pizza and Ortiz talking should have been about what we are going to experience in the future with our fees. I understand that I may sound like someone that is cheap but I am not. It is just kind of difficult to pay each quarter 2,000 dollars by yourself. I do not want it to sound like a poor me but honestly I would rather sit through an hour of something that is going to directly effect me financially. Than have to listen to see if there will be water fountains near the tennis courts or computer labs or getting Chipotle brought to the school.
I do not understand why the ASI president was there. He spoke maybe three times tops. We really elected a bright one. Not to be rude or anything but if he is so involved then why did he not answer some of the questions or add his opinion to it. Instead he let Ortiz take the floor and answer them all, which I do not mind, but sit down then because you seem like a a waste of space standing there with a microphone in your hand saying nothing.
Overall the Pizza with the president was okay/bad. It could have been a lot better. Hopefully the spring quarter session of the pizza with the president will be more knowledgeable. Samuel Islas
That is very true. I tend to do the same thing and tell myself that I will start my homework and then I notice 30 mins have gone by and I still have not even typed my name in. It is very hard to try and unplug yourself from these distractions. I have done it once and I only lasted a week. Because I am so use to having my cell phone with me or being able to connect with the social media. Sometimes I would forget my cell phone in the car and the whole day I will be thinking when I will get it back. This generation we are very dependent with the technology we have today. It is sad but no matter what we will be glued to the technology we have. Samuel Islas
For the past few weeks, I have been getting this overwhelming feeling that I need to unplug. Every five minutes, my phone will buzz to notify me that I received a text message, somebody mentioned me in a tweet, so-and-so wrote on my wall, etc. Soon…
There are thousands and thousands of stories everyday created. out of those thousands of stories only five get through. Because there has to be a limit on how many stories can get on the newspaper. That is where there is a problem with the newspaper. There is so much more to tell but those 20 pages of paper can only hold so much. That is why everyone is converting.
Personally I do not read the newspaper. Instead I look on-line for the news or just turn on the T.V. I know that may sound bad but to think about it the majority of people in today’s society do the same thing. That is why newspaper companies are not doing as well as they use to back then.
Last weekend I actually read some parts of the newspaper, LA Times, and some of the stuff inside caught my eye. It was kind of cool to actually hold paper and being able to flip the pages instead of going online and seeing it flip virtually. I know that sounds like I am a little kid trying something new for the first time but I must say it was kind of a new experience. Some of the topics in the newspaper were about the debate, entertainment, local news, music, and other controversies. It was kind of cool to actually analyze the paper and see what was in it.
Will that one experience change the way I read the news? Not at all. I will still continue getting the news through the web and television. The reason is because it is a lot quicker and I do not have to wait five days to receive my news on the porch. Another positive thing about getting the news through the web is that you can go straight to the stuff that matters to you the most. Instead of flipping through the pages and trying to find which page has the news you want to read.
Sooner or later the paper version of the news is going to be a thing of the past. because instead of having a limit with how many stories you can have so that it could fit on page nine of the LA Times you can fit it all on the web.
I always found it interesting about how our society acts towards one another. We always act completely different with people we come in contact with. Whether it is talking with your boss, talking to your grandparents, talking with with one of your siblings, talking with your friends, or even talking to complete strangers. We always put on some type of mask to see how that other person reacts. Whether the mask they put on is suitable for the person he or she is talking to or if they have to put on a different mask to fit in.
The reason why I brought this topic up is because the other day I witnessed my mother put on a mask when she was talking on the phone. Before the phone rang she was having an argument with my younger brother. Then once she picked up the phone she sounded like she was having a good day. As soon as she hung up I called her out on it and asked her why she acted like that. She said because why would anyone want to know that your having a bad day. They had nothing to do with it. At first she did have a point but that was one scenario. Another scenario is when my father calls and either me or one of my siblings picks up the phone. We always say it is either our aunt or grandmother because her tone is always different when she talks to my father. It is kind of amusing to witness this but also sad. This is just one tiny example of how we change our attitudes very quickly to adapt.
I am not saying this as a type of problem we have in society. Rather I am saying it as a type of humor that we have a society. Hopefully we can catch people that do this and call them out on it.
Some of the stuff you put on your list I completely agree with you. One of the things that annoy me the most is when you let some one in the lane when you are driving and then they go slower which causes you to slow down. That is one thing I hate. Because if that want to go slow than go in the slow lane! Instead they want everyone else to go the same speed as them.
I’m not exactly sure what pushed me to write on this topic today, but I’d like to address things in my life that annoy me. I promise I’m not uptight; there are just little things that really get to me! So here is my list! Don’t take anything too seriously! :)
I think it is kind of funny when teachers put up an assignment on the third week of the quarter that is not due until finals week. They always say I am just putting this up not to scare you but just to give you a head start on completing this so and so assignment. When we read what the assignment is we all have mix feelings. Some students get stressed, nervous, angry, or on rare occasions excited if its a fun project. The last feeling hardly anyone has that emotion but we always should stay optimistic.
I tell myself every time that I will start it as soon as I get home. Does it happen… not at all. I have to give props to the point five percent of students that actually start it when they receive the assignment but for me I usually wait until the week it is due. I do not get stressed about the assignment, which I guess is a good thing but I get really bad writers block. I could stay in front of a computer and not type a single thing for two hours. I do not get distracted it is just I do not know where to start.
A perfect example, last quarter in my government class the first day of class the professor told us that there was a 10 page paper due on the last day of class. He explained it and so it did not seem so bad. I told myself that I would do a page a week and so that when the tenth week came I would have already completed it and it would not be a hassle. Instead I waited the day before the due date to start it. Thank the Heavens for not having school or work that day because if I did it would have been really bad. Because not only did I do it the night before the government class was at 8 a.m. Lets just say that it was a very long day and by the grace of God I completed it and got a 98 percent on it. I have no idea how that was possible but it was.
This quarter hopefully I do not do the same thing and start on it as soon as I get the assignment. As the old saying goes lightning does not strike twice in the same spot (usually).
I completely agree with you. For example, my brother, who recently got his license, did not know how to drive my grandma’s house without going online and looking it up on MapQuest. My grandma has lived in the same house for fifty years and my brother has been to my grandma’s house at least every month. You would think that you would have it memorized but what technology has done is reduce or memory and make us reliable on it. Do not get me wrong some of the new technology is kind of cool. Once in a while it would be nice to do things the “old fashion” way. Samuel
I am not sure if I can express enough to anyone how irritated and annoyed with technology I truly am. I suppose the principle and all that it has done for human beings is wonderful, but it has now consumed our lives. When I begin to explain this to some people, they respond with something along…
I wish we could control time. I do not mean going to the clock and resetting it. I mean if I need that extra fifteen minutes then I know I can add that to the time I have now. Having two jobs and being a full time student is kind of crazy. I thought I could survive it thinking that if I can have set schedules for my jobs and school then it would be a walk in the park. For my case it is not like that.
When I got my second job in December I knew that it would be kind of difficult managing my time but now that it has been over a month I am still fighting with my first job in getting days off so I can go to my second job and be able to go to school.
Some say that I should quit my first job and just have one job and go to school. Trust me I would have done that in a heartbeat when I got the second job. The reason why I did not quit my first job is because I need money. Being a student is kind of expensive and having the necessities in life are also kind of pricey.
Going back to time management. I need to make sure that I spend every minute completing a task so that I do not get backed up with stuff that I could have done a day or a month ago. I just need to see how much more time I have before it runs out and then I am left with nothing. Sounds kind of depressing. I do not mean it a depressing tone rather I am saying it in a fast paced tone and making sure that I have time to complete my other tasks. Hopefully these nine weeks will go fast.
You know when someone asks you what power would you want to have if given the choice? Well I know my answer.
sooo i’ve always wanted to work in forensics. but i feel like there’s a lot of other things i want to do too. i feel like i might end up getting two masters. one in criminology and another in education. I LOVE the show Law & Order : SVU, but watching the episodes when men rape & murder little…
I have also wanted to work in the forensics area. I really enjoy working in the science field. I completely understand that some of the stuff such as murder or other horrible things you will have to go through if you still want to do forensics. You should not let that stop you instead you should make that want you to strive even more in working in the forensics department.
This quarter is going to be the most interesting quarter I am going to have since I have been at the school. The reason I say this is because of the Professors I have for my classes. Each one of them is very unique in the sense they all have their different style of teaching. Of course every teacher has their uniqueness but this time I hit the jackpot. Typically, I would have the teacher that would make a few jokes here and there and try to make the class interesting and make sure the objectives for that class were met. For example last quarter all my teachers would begin with role, tell the class about what we are going to do today and then begin lecture. Sounds like a typical professor but for some reason, it could be me, all the professors this quarter are mixing things around.
I am taking four classes which are not that much considering one of them is a kinesiology class. Still that professor is very peculiar as well. Let me begin with the kinesiology professor and to start off I am not going to be rating them on their teaching or give away their names. There is already a site for that. The kinesiology teacher is a diehard fan of Michael Jackson. To make you understand how much he likes Michael Jackson he has a tattoo of his initials on his wrist, when you walk in to class he is playing Michael Jackson and dances like him as well. Some might think that it is crazy but for myself I take as humorous.
The next professor I have is kind of out there. She is super kind do not get me wrong but there something about her that makes the class fun to walk into. For example, she thinks the class is a movie set. In order for us to quite down she has to ask someone in the class to yell out “QUIET ON SET!” once again I do not think it is crazy just humorous.
The next teacher I have likes to have different personas. For example every time he gives an example he plays three people and makes a conversation about it. He is very intelligent do not get me wrong he just likes to talk to himself I guess.
I know I said I have four classes so that would mean I would have four professors. I do and the last professor I have is making us do this blog as an assignment so I will just say he is a really cool guy.
I know is my first week in winter quarter but so far it is going well. I just cannot wait for next week to come around and see what happens.
