That is cool that you were able to do your field assignment on the study abroad. I am going travel to Italy for a semester so I am excited for that. I have been to the international center and they are super cool in there. They help me out with everything and know there stuff. That is cool that this group of students going to France are pretty much going for vacation. I have to go for school but I will probably have a month of vacation when I am there. Hope you enjoy the trip it will be an awesome experience.

Field Assignment Two

For the second field assignment I chose to write about the study abroad trips at Cal Poly Pomona. My focus was on the summer Paris trips. For exactly one month, beginning on July 1, a group of Cal Poly Pomona students will live in Paris and study the language. The trip will allow students to be fully submerged in the culture while experiencing the city.

            Trip goers will attend operas, museums and other excursions. The French teacher at Cal Poly Pomona will lead the students through the month long trip. She has been leading the trip for the past five years and once lived in the beautiful city. Her expertise will allow students to gain the most they can from their travels.

            Since I am one of the participants on this summer trip, I enjoyed researching for this field assignment and learning more about the trip and what I have to look forward to.

            I kept my interviews exclusive to students. A lot of information on the trip can be found online and I thought hearing students opinions would allow for a different approach then just listing information that is easily obtainable.

            This was my favorite of the two for the field assignments. Having a direct connection to what I was writing about kept me interested and wanting to get as much information as possible. Studying abroad is an experience that many students look into and want to be a part of. Unfortunately, not everyone commits to a trip and gets to attend. After researching how simple it is to be a part of such a trip, I would hope that everyone who wants to study abroad would do so. If my article were published, I would want it to give students the drive to go and study abroad, to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

My field assignment was on underage drinking. I really did enjoy doing this field assignment more than the previous one. I say that because I found this topic to be a little bit more interesting. I got to interview a cop, teenager, and parents.

The best part of doing this field assignment was hearing the teenager’s stories. It was very interesting because when he was saying these stories his parents had no idea about what he has done in the past. I interviewed them separately. the teenager asked me not to mention anything he told me to his parents. His parents on the other hand thought he was the best teen any parents could have. “The role model’ as they put it. I thought how could the parents not know at all? To call Matt, the teenager, a role model after the stories he told me is crazy.

Overall everything went smoothly I was able to get all my interviews and all seemed to work with my schedule. maybe the only thing I would probably want is to add another teenager and his or her family to the mix to see maybe a different point of view. The reason i did not was because I did not know what the max was for interviewing people.

i wish this would have popped in my head sooner. The reason why I chose this topic honestly was because one of my friends was talking about under age drinking. So I would like to say thanks.

Congrats! I think it is always cool to hear someone talk about walking in two weeks. Hopefully you will get a career. I was looking online and it said that public relations is on a rise. Unless your a journalism major then good luck (in a good way). I don’t walk for another two years so I have quite a long time. i could walk next year but I would have to be taking 5 classes every quarter and I would have to put my trip to Italy on hold and I do not want that. Let the "Year of Graduations" Begin!!!

In my first blog I wrote about how I was too excited for this summer. This Saturday my brother is graduating from high school. So right now my whole family is scrambling and try to organize everything for Saturday. My parents like to throw big parties so right now it is kind of chaotic at the house.

My brother’s graduation is the first graduation happening this year out of six. So next weekend it is two of my cousins graduation. Then the week after that is my other brother’s graduation and two of my other cousins. I am really excited because last summer there was not any graduations or ceremonies so this year is going to be great.

The only down fall about these graduations are the gifts. I do not know what to exactly get my brother graduating high school. He already has a lot of stuff and my parents already gave him a laptop so I will probably give him money. My other brother though I will get him an Ipod. The one graduating in two weeks is a lot more appreciative and he usually gets a lot of hand me downs. So I tend to get him new stuff when it is his birthday or for this instance his graduation.

Congratulations on everyone that is graduating in two weeks. Your finally free and able to make a difference in the world (hopefully). May what ever path you take lead you to greatness. When writing the previous sentence I felt like i was Yoda or some wise person (strange I know). have a good weekend I know I will.

I completely agree with you and that the council meeting was off the charts. Did you join the riot afterwards? I wish it would have been a little more interesting. The librarian was okay but to be honest I think they need to change their panel of council members. The older guy next to the Asian council member needs to retire because I was going to fall asleep when her spoke. The women next to the mayor also needs to retire. They need to bring in more young council members like the mayor and Diamond Bar would thrive that much more.

This was the very first city council meeting I have attended and I must say that was very boring. The experience after was great but the actual meeting did not really excite me. the reason why I thought it was boring is because I thought it would be like the city council meeting exercise we did in class the week before. That exercise was interesting because that was a topic that caught everyone’s attention.

After the meeting though it got better. we got to meet the mayor. She was cool. She seemed very down to Earth. One of my classmates seemed to have a huge crush on her. She was able to answer all the questions we had given her. Our “tour guide” or the woman that answered some of our other questions in the press room was really nice also. It must be pretty crazy to try to remember all that information about the city.

i have never been to the Diamond Bar City Hall and where the meeting was held was very nice and huge. They said that they will be moving to a newer building later on. I can not imagine how that would be. like I said that building seemed nice but the new one must be even better.

After the meeting we were taught how the cameras worked and how the technical guy is able to record the meeting and what kind of technology they use.

I did not know that they city of Diamond Bar was that young. I also thought it was pretty cool that they were able to get the type of technology that the camera records you when you talk into the microphone. The tech guy said that they were able to put that company that creates that type of technology on the map. Overall I really did enjoy the experience. Now on to writing the paper for the actual meeting.

Deja Vu (not the strip club)

I know this title may seem confusing but just to set things straight this blog is not about the strip club on Central and Mission. How do I know where it is exactly located? Well I went to an elementary school just two miles away from it that is how ghetto my elementary school is. Back to the actual topic about this blog is that I feel that I am repeating the first five weeks of this quarter.

In the first five weeks I was assigned a shadowing project for my photojournalism class, field assignment for reporting, and a nine page paper for my philosophy class. When I completed all these assignments it felt great and to know that I did well on of them it felt even better.

Now that we are getting closer to the end of the quarter it feels like it is happening all over again. I get assigned another field assignment, I have to shadow a non-profit company for the photojournalism class, and now I have to complete an eight page paper for my philosophy class.

I am doing this all over a again but now they are all due on the same week so this makes it even that much more difficult. I know that I will be completing the assignments on time but just the thought of each one is kind of stressing me out. That is why I said it feels like deja vu because I am doing the same thing over again and I am not to happy about it. Why could it not be the strip club Deja Vu instead of school deja vu? Just messing.

Exercising is the best reliever to do when you are stress or upset. I run four times a week. I feel great when I return home. I think that is the best thing to do because not only are you getting all that negativism out but also you are working on your body to make sure it is in shape. That would be awesome if everyone that was stress or upset would go for a run and make it mandatory. That would be lowering the amount of violence in the world and lower the rate of obesity in America. Taking out two birds with one stone as the saying goes. That is pretty cool that you were able to talk to many students on how they felt about the presentation. I too probably would be nervous going up to random people asking fro their input. That is good though that you were able to do that. I did not see in the blog post that you interview Davis unless I missed it, my bad. That would have been cool to interview someone very well known. My field assignment was about enrollment for public and private elementary schools. I talked to two parents and two faculty members.

The assignment was interesting because honestly I thought it was going to be boring. The two parents that I spoke to were very nice and answered all the questions I had. The two faculty member were the ones that were kind of hard to interview because both were busy and the days they were available it conflicted with my availability but that gores to show that I need to make sacrifices in order to get this story done. When I finally got a chance to interview the faculty members they were both very open to answering any of my questions.

It would have been cool though to interview the students. If I were to do that I would probably need a permission slip from each of the student’s parents. that would have taken a while to get and there probably would be a lot of trouble to organize that. I does not matter though because I was able to get what I needed from the four interviews I conducted.

Overall I really did enjoy the topic I chose. I think that is the best thing to do. If you chose something that is interesting and you want to do that as your topic it should be smooth sailing. I think it is funny when students choose something that is not creative or interesting and is very bland to the reader. Because that is when your work becomes more difficult to do.

I also noticed that everyone did their field assignment about an event or something that pertained with Cal Poly Pomona. Mine did not on the other hand so hopefully my stands out in a good way and not by failing.

I completely agree with you. The best way to start talking with someone is with food. I love to try new things and those places you mentioned seems cool to eat at. I go to the Claremont Hike Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and I am hungry afterward so that I know that there is a bagel place and Thai food that you said are good I probably will try it afterwards. There is a place in chino called California Pho Grill and it is really good. Want strawberries, chocolate cover popcorn, rice cakes, or peanut butter cups?

When we drive the majority of us assume that nothing really bad is going to happen because in our minds we are the world’s best driver. Well that is what I thought until yesterday.

Yesterday I got my first ticket and it was not even a traffic violation meaning I did not speed, I was not driving reckless, I did not do a “California Roll,” I even had my seatbelt on. Instead the Chino Police got me for talking on my cell phone.

Let me start from the beginning. I was suppose to go to my abueltia’s house to pick something up. I was suppose to be there at 1:30 p.m. but I lagged it and did not leave my house till 3 p.m. While I was walking out of my house I had to make a phone call to a shipment I was going to recieve because they were misplacing my money. I did not think it was going to be that long so I continued to talk to the operator while driving. I had the phone on speaker but close to my face because the operator could not hear me. Two miles away from my house I hear the siren. At first I thought it was for a car next to me. I was wrong though it was for me because there was no car around me. I knew what I did wrong because I dropped my phone and put underneath my seat. Stupid me I did not hangup so I could still hear the operator talking. I was laughing and being nervous at the same time. While I was pulling over I had to find my phone under my seat and hangup before the officer came to my window.

Once I parked I found my phone and placed it in the cup holder. I gave up and I knew what I did wrong. While I did that the officer came up to the driver side but I forgot that my window was broken so I opened the door and gave him my id and registration and insurance. He asked no questions and took them and wrote me a ticket. While he was writing my ticket two kids were walking pass and the officer straight up told them you see kids that is why you do not talk on the phone while driving. All I could do was look down in shame.

The reason why I was kind of shocked to get a ticket for this is because I drive really fast. I am a good driver but I do drive fast. Instead I get a ticket for talking on SPEAKER on my cell phone. I am thinking of billing the operator taking her time and making me get in trouble with the law. Now in two weeks I am going to contest the ticket and see how much I am going to pay.

Well have a good week because mine started off great!

The only way I remember to write blogs is to write on my hand everyday on what I need to do so I do not forget. it works for me. But I think I could get sick from writing on my skin so I am probably going to stop and by an agenda. Or you could set an alarm on your phone everyday to remind you to do a blog. It would be pretty cool to have a bunch of things set up to to remind you just to write a blog. Then again you would have to set them up all over again. Setting up all those things that remind you could also remind you to write the blog. In the long run you will pretty much be going in a circle. Just a thought.

I have a weird sense of humor. I do not have a creepy or strange sense of humor but I pretty much laugh at things that others think why are you laughing or how is that funny? I do not know if any of you have been on the website funnyordie. Some of the stuff is really good and some of the stuff is kind of strange and why did they post that? My favorite clips, so far, are Captain Planet with Don Cheadle, and Mob Wives The Christening. If you ever get the chance watch them I thought they were funny as hell. Then again my kind of humor may be different then yours.

I think it is interesting how everyone has their own sense of comedy. Some may have a sick mind and think things that we as a society think is not funny what so ever. Some may have a general sense of humor. Others are in the middle.

I would say I am towards the middle but more to the general humor.

For example, I would be the only one laughing in my tennis class when someone messes up. I am not a pro or anything but some of the mistakes that others do is just ridiculous. There was this one girl that did not know how to play tennis at all. So when she was facing an intermediate level tennis player she was completely clueless. He did go easy on her but still that did not help her at all. But it was not her skill that was funny it was her attitude towards the game. She would curse like no other when she messed up. I tried my best not to laugh out loud due to wether she was serious or not while she was cussing.

At work they all ask me why I laugh so much or they ask why I think everything is so funny? I tell them because when something happens I look at the humor side of it and try to explain it to them and then they begin to laugh.

I just look towards the humorous side of something that happens.

When my uncle passed I wanted to write something for him and tell my family and friends that were there that paid their respect to my uncle at the mass. I did not want to write something on how I felt that day, which is sadness, instead I said something that was a humorous moment I experienced with my uncle.

Humor is a great quality to have. Everyone has it and everyone has different levels. Use it everyday.

Cinnamon Challenge...

This weeks blog is on the cinnamon challenge. I am sure many people already know it but just in case they do not here it is. The challenge is to eat, consume or swallow a tablespoon of cinnamon. It may seem simple but only a few were able to do it. I have not tried it but many of my friends have and have not succeed.

The reactions to the ones that have tried it though are priceless. Here is the process of what usually happens when someone wants to do the challenge.

1. think they are tough and that challenge is easy

2. pour the cinnamon in a tablespoon and begin the countdown to consume it.

3. quickly gets the tablespoon full of cinnamon and opens there mouth and try to eat it all.

4. once in the mouth a second or half a second they begin to panic and try to spit out all the cinnamon.

5. begin to yell or scream (ladies)

6. runs to fridge and gets water or the faucet what ever is closer.

7. down the water and spit out the remaining cinnamon in their mouth or have the faucet running and place their mouth on the running water.

8. after a few mins they begin to either laugh, cry, yell more or scream more, curse, or sometimes go after the person that put them up to the challenge.

That is the order in what usually happens when you do the cinnamon challenge. It is funny as hell but it could be dangerous to do. Just a warning people have died from this. what happens is that the cinnamon particles go into the lungs and cause serious damage. But back to the funny part. If you want to see what happens when someone does this challenge either tell someone to do it or go on YouTube and type in glozell cinnamon challenge. She over does it by using a ladle if I spelled it correctly. Have a great weekend.

I agree with you. I really did not see as a marketing ploy because everyone seemed so involoved and so “fight the power” attitude that to me those students that walked barefoot today were doing this for a good cause. I was out there today not to support it but to video tape it for videography class. It does make sense that they could have been using this event to support Toms. Example there was the title TOMS everywhere. Instead we should help those that are hungry or cold everyday. We should market blankets and do what TOMS does every blanket you buy we send one to a child that needs one.

Yea, my friend told me that android finally gets to do instagram. That is kind of cool because I have an android and now I can finally start doing this. The only thing though is that I do not exactly how to work it. But after you said that it is like twitter I do not know if i want to download it. I really do not care for twitter even though everyone has it and it is the biggest thing out there now. The reason why I say that is because I really do not want to hear where that person is at or what they are doing every second. Last quarter I talked about procrastination and that I would not do it anymore. Well I lied to myself. I waited till the last minute on everything and by the the grace of God I did not fail any of my classes.

This time I will try this promise one more time. The reason why I make this promise one more time is because this might be one of the hardest quarters I am going to have to do.

It is not that the classes themselves are extremely hard it is just that I will have to be putting a lot of time into them. Time is never on my side.

I do better when I am on “crunch time” and wait till everything is about to be due, and complete the assignment then. Then again I have never tried not to procrastinate. This may be the first quarter that I do not wait till the last minute to do assignments.

That is why I am doing my blog right now on a Monday instead of doing it on Thursday or Friday. You see I am already changing how I complete my assignments. Hopefully this will continue to stay like this and I will not break my promise.

Just a side note did you hear about the lottery and how three people won? That sucks because now they have to share and who wants to share half a billion dollars? Then again how would you spend half a billion dollars?

Since I am nice I would be giving at least a million to each family household, which consist of aunts and uncles, in my family. I would be giving three million to each one of my brothers and sisters. 40 million to my mom and dad, 100,000 to all of my close friends. Then the rest would be for myself. If I did the math right i would be left with 200 or 300 million dollars.

The reason why I would be giving that much away is because who wants to be rich alone? Then you can not have or experience the same things and luxuries as someone else.

Back to procrastination. Starting April 2 (today) I promise my self that once the assignment is assigned I will complete it or as much of it as possible. Hopefully this works.

That looks interesting. In a good way. I remember when I tried new food. It was Indian food and to be honest it was not the best but I still respected them and ate the whole thing. Everything was just way to spicy. What is the stuff in the middle of the pancake? Looks like chili. I may not like it but I will not judge it until I try it. When looking at this picture the only thing that looks familiar is the greens and it looks like there are also carrots. That cool though you got to try new things and be able to learn another culture. I think that is the best when we are about to learn someone elses culture and share it with others.

This year I’ve had the great pleasure of living with Heran Nadew and Luladey Ayalew. These two lovely Ethiopian women have exposed me to so much of their culture. They’ve taught me about Ethiopia, taught me basic phrases and curse words (of course I have to learn those!), but most importantly, they’ve taught me about their food! Anyone who knows me well knows that I love to cook. There is only one thing that I love more than cooking… you guessed it! Eating! I had tried Ethiopian food before I met them, but I honestly didn’t know what the heck I was eating. This year I have learned so much about the food, ingredients, seasonings, and flavors. My favorite dish is injera, which is a pancake like bread that has a slightly tangy flavor to it. The dough is made out of a grain called teff and is fermented for up to three days. The injera is used as a utensil basically so if you go to an Ethiopian restaurant, don’t expect to get a full place setting of forks, knives, and spoons. You eat this with a variety of different toppings. My favorite is missir wat, which is a spicy lentil stew made with a seasoning called berbere. It is so good and really healthy. Just writing about it makes me hungry! I’ve been so fascinated and impressed by the dishes that I’ve decided I want to go to Little Ethiopia on Fairfax and buy the ingredients to try and make my own traditional Ethiopian cuisine. Anyone who loves food and loves trying new things would definitely appreciate the wonderful flavors of Ethiopia. I highly recommend that you try the food first, learn about it, and then maybe, if you’re daring enough, try and make some yourself.

Hopefully this quater will go faster than last quarter. Don’t get me wrong last quarter did go by fast but honestly I want it to be summer already.

One of my cousin’s called it “The Year of Graduations.” The reason being is that my family will be celebrating seven graduations. Technically it is 10 but because we really do not celebrate the ones graduating from kinder so we will be having seven.

Four are graduating from 8th grade. Two are graduating from high school and one from college. I am not the college graduate I still have a year and a half left.

my family is pretty big. One of my aunts calculated that we will be celebrating one or two graduations every year for the next decade.

This all starts in May, which I am kind of excited for. That is also the reason why I want this quarter to go by fast.

I have pretty chill professors thsi quarter so hopefully that will some what make time fly. This quarter though I will be taking 18 units so that will be fun.

Another reason why I also want the summer to come quickly is because I may get an internship. Hopefully this will happen. Because I want to be able to gain experience and also I think it would be pretty cool.

Quick question does this count as week one or week zero? Because if it does count as week one then nine more to go. If not then let the ten weeks begin.
